Just bought a 97 F-350 looks like the old owner used to tow a fith wheel has a RV trailer plug everything seems to work except when I press on the break pedal no light come on the brake control box check the plug in back with break pedal down no power there is power to the brake taillights.Someone was telling me that the trailer needs to be hooked up before the light will work on the brake control box would like to know if this is true or do I have a bad brake control box and can I tow the trailer home with out the trailer breaks if I take my time

i’m a mechanic but not very good at electrical, switched out brake light switch and cruise control turn of switch with a 1990 c-1500 chevy with 5.7 the brake lights did not work, it blew a fuse then replaced fuse and they started workin until 10 miles down the road then they stopped again replaced fuse and still dont work has a new brake light stop switch and is adjusted this truck also has a electric trailer brake box on it. i have diagrams from all data and the wores are comin from cruise control it appears, cruse control does work, gettin power at the brake fuse, traced wires and didnt not see a short along the frame rail, replaced the circuit board the lights plug into at rear because it had signs of burnt around the turn signals and turn signals were not workin til that was replaced. and electraic trailer brake box is not workin but it is connected to the power rail under hood RH side. before i blame trailer brake box i want to make sure. any siggestions?

i am looking into buying a boat trailer that was converted to a landscape trailer that is roughly 6.5×20ft duel axles. and a trailer that big really need electric brakes. i heard you can add them and i was wondering about how much it would cost me per axle and who sells aftermarket trailer brake add ons?
